R.I.P. My LCS

As of today my LCS has closed its doors for good.

I managed to make it in for one last browse through his collection of singles and to say farewell to a store that has seen a handful of owners and two different locations.

I started collecting seriously back in 1988, took a break in 1997 and returned to the hobby in 2008. This has been the only store I frequented in my hometown. I will never shop at the only option left.

Thank-you very much Jim, who started the store and thank-you very much Glynn for your incredible and undeserved over-the-top kindness for the last, almost, two years. As a fitting exit I cleaned him out of his remaining four packs of Topps Series 2 Baseball.

Not sure I want to rip them......call me a sentimentalist.

P.S. - Thanks for the sweet deal on the Sandman #1 issue. Lord knows I spent enough time staring at it every time I came in.

Cheers,

LFB2B is a whole year older today

Last week sometime I noticed two things about 'Long Fly Ball To Because......'.

Firstly, I was approaching my 100th post, which is a milestone I guess, we all like nice round numbers to chronicle things by. So, I decided to celebrate it with a Box Break of 2009-10 Upper Deck Champ's Hockey.

Secondly, today will mark exactly one year since I decided to start sharing what I enjoy about card collecting with a growing community of people whose interests coincide with mine.

The people I have encountered throughout, some with whom I have had the great fortune to trade with, have helped re instill the passion to collect cards and have served to remind me of the whole reason why I got into this in the first place.

So, to the many, many, many collectors and bloggers out there who have shared in this with me, Thank-you. I look forward to another year with you and I look forward to another year of meeting new collectors and hopefully helping them to enjoy the hobby.

Cheers,

P.S. - What the heck, I kicked the blog off with this a year ago, might as well dust it off for the day.

Mail Day Redux

Once again, I have allowed mail to pile up. However, this time it is legit. Planning a weekend trip to Nova Scotia and making sure work is covered has taken up MUCH more time than it should have.

Several packages have been waiting for me with open arms as I got home from work lately. Firstly was my inaugural trade using Zistle.com and I could not be happier. I have a feeling that when I find some time I will quickly become addicted to trading with its members. A special thanks to dkrill for these additions ;

A couple Jays and some SP's as well as Mr.Robinson signing on the dotted line.

A successful ebay auction showed up as well, I had totally forgotten about this purchase. I hate when that happens. It makes me think about what else I may have forgotten to do.
Anyway, chalk one more SP off the board for '09 Topps if you would Mr.Sabathia.

Finally, thanks to FanofReds for my first three Target Retro cards of the year. These are much nicer when seen in person but I am resisting the urge to start collecting this version of the set as well. MUST.....................STAY........................STRONG!!!!

Thanks to everyone for their help in finishing some sets and possibly starting others. If anybody needs help finishing their sets off drop me an e-mail and I will see what I can do. In the mean time, take a look at FanofReds want lists and help him out.

Friends don't let friends go topp-less!!

Cheers,
